I recently decided to upgrade my PC to Windows Vista Business Edition running on my Alienware Workstation Technical Specification:
- Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor with Quad Core Technology
- Extreme 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 1 x 8MB full-speed level 2 Cache - Overclocked to 3.2GHz
- NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI
- Standard 2GB Dual CHannel DDR2 SDRAM at 1066MHz
- 4GB of system memory
- Standard Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX SLI
- Up to 2 x 768MB GDDR3 dedicated video memory
- Quad DVI and S-Video outputs with quad-display support*
- Full DirectX® 10 and OpenGL® 2.0 graphics compatibility
- Capacity: HD 500GB
- Interface: Serial ATA 3Gb/s
And was anxious to See Microsoft highly aclaimed wow factor BUT i'm highly disappointed,however i did notice one thing significant which i believe would be more to do with hardware then OS which was fast boot and reboot.
I managed to crash vista On my machine is more capable of handling high perfomance computing,well after initial hickups i moved on to see what other WOW factor Microsoft have in the bag.
The nice addition has to be the side bar which windows ripped it from Mac and Linux.
But yet there was NO 3D desktop in sight,i decided to google to see if there was any problems with my installation but no avail i was sadly mistaken BUT i did came across a major suprise with google search which was REAL 3D desktop and NO it wasnt windows it was Linux.
Yes Linux MANDRIVA Linux and it did had real WOW factor,for which i decided to install Mandriva and too honest i have NOT been disappointed.
The ease of use and Amazing 3D eye candies wasn't by Windows BUT the least well known OS in mainstream non IT market -> Linux OS.
I was pleasently suprise and i suggest people try it too.Most of all the best thing is the Operating System is Free to download and use Yes free! (again makes me wonder why did i paid for windows vista?)
One thing for sure after switching to Linux Mandriva I wont be turning back to Microsoft and yes Linux have got a new customer!

My conclusion:
Windows Vista WOW factor is a SHAM and way of Microsoft making money.
Where LINUX is the real 3D wow factor.
Dont take my words for it try and test it,Linux wont let you down!
